My alternative is to cut the outer profile, which would be roughly equivalent to a big C shape, then cut the rest of the part manually.I need to better understand openclosed and joined vectors for certain, but is there a way to cut such a path without joining (or maybe closing is the right term) with a straight line. Are you saying to cut the profile ON the line, as opposed to inside or outside That makes perfect sense, and Ill try that, but what do you mean to the left or right. You can run the path on the vector or to the left or right of it.
You can also use the allowance offset to run the cutter offset from the vector. Does that make sense Tim. The option to Profile on the Left Right of Open vectors is available in VCarve Pro and not in Cut2D. Cut2D does automatically offset to compensate for the tool radius when Pocketing inside selected closed vectors and when Profile cutting around the inside outside of closed vectors. ![]() Its important to remember that its possible to cut sharp external corners ie around the outside of a rectangle, but this shape will not fit into a recessed pocket that will always include the cutter radius in any corner regions. ![]() So to clarify, Cut2D does automatically compensate for the cutter size shape when calculating toolpaths to ensure the actual size of the design is cut on the job part. Cut2D does not include the functionality for changing a design by manually offsetting vectors shapes.
